Colorado Engagement
For our 1999 New Year's Eve celebration, Bill and I went to Keystone, Colorado with friends. On New Year's Eve, Bill decided to take me on a two hour snowmobiling tour in the mountains.
Thirty minutes into the tour, our guide's snowmobile ran out of gas, so Bill and I shared a snowmobile while the guide took Bill's. When we reached the top of North Sheep's Peak, Bill began acting strange. Our guide was telling some facts about the area to our tour group, and I wanted to listen. Bill walked over to the edge of the peak to look at the sunset. I though it was rude to leave the group, but I followed him over to the edge. I asked him if he wanted to take a picture. He said, "Do you want to take a picture as my girlfriend or my fiancee?" Because I was completely bundled up against the weather and wearing goggles and a helmet, I couldn't see the ring he was holding or even understand what he was saying. "Look!" he said as he held up the ring. I saw it and began to cry and laugh. We kissed and he put the ring on my finger. "You didn't say yes!" he said. I said, "You didn't ask me!" He had been so nervous and flustered that I hadn't seen the ring, and he had forgotten to ask. He then asked me, and of course I accepted.
It is something I will always remember: Looking at a view of 14,000ft mountains and becoming engaged as the sun set on the last day of the millenium!
