The Prayer

Scott and I had talked about getting engaged for a while but were never (I thought) very serious about it! However on August 29, 1999 he asked me to be his wife in the best place in the world...my church.

My sister was singing the song by Celine Dion called, "The Prayer" in church on this Sunday and throughout the week members of my family and his family planned on attending church this Sunday to see Andrea sing (or so I thought, but they all knew what was going to take place). Scott had always said that when he proposed that both of our families would be there and I NEVER expected it to be at my church. Andrea, my sister, sang the song beautifully and I of course was very proud. Anyway during the last part of our church service that morning the pastor said that a young man would like to stand up and ask a special question. Scott was sitting at my left and I could feel him stand up and then he said, "Come with me." When I looked over his sister was handing him a small box and all I could do was cry. He lead me up to the front of the church and sat me onto chair and got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I said, "YES!" Half crying and half smiling.

It was so very special to me because he did it in a place that means so much to me and in front of so many people who mean the whole world to both of us, family and friends. I also feel it is so special because my grandfather was the one who got us together and he was also there to see us become engaged. It was very romantic and very special. Andrea will be sing the song, "The Prayer" at our wedding on June 23, 2001.
